One of the biggest video game surprises of 2021 is the new Pokémon Snap.
While the concept is simple, getting up close and personal with Pokémon and taking photos with them is a soothing and lovely alternative to the more dramatic combat of Pokémon Sword and Shield or even Pokémon Unite. The game’s developers haven’t touched it since its release, but that will soon change.
Three months after the release of New Pokémon Snap, a free update was released that added new regions to explore and Pokémon to photograph. It’ll be out shortly, so here’s everything you need to know about the update before it arrives.
When will the new Pokémon Snap update be available?
The Pokémon Company has given a specific date for the release of this free update for New Pokémon Snap. On August 3, 2021, at 9 p.m. Eastern, a patch containing this new content will be released.
Depending on your system settings, the game should update automatically or give you the option to do so. If you’re playing at the time, you’ll need to restart the game to download the update and see the changes.
Is there a new trailer for the Pokémon Snap update?
There is, indeed! The trailer highlights all of the new regions that players will be able to explore as well as some of the new Pokémon that they will encounter. Take a look at the following:
In the upcoming update, what new Pokémon will be added?
The Pokémon Company has revealed that this update would introduce 20 new Pokémon to the game, bringing the total number of species to 234. Although the trailer does not reveal all of them, it does indicate that old favorites like Psyduck and adorable new Pokémon like Rockruff will be included. Here are all of the new Pokémon we saw in the trailer:
While there are many new Pokémon to discover, the new regions in this update also allow you to see and photograph Pokémon from the base game in new locations and angles. For casual fans and completionists both, this should make the update worthwhile!
In the Pokémon Snap update, what new regions are there?
Players will be able to explore three new regions in New Pokémon Snap after August 3 according to the trailer and press release announcing the update. The first is Secret Side Path, which allows gamers to shrink down and see things from a different perspective. Mightywide River is a raging river on Belusylva Island that is home to Pokémon such as Psyduck and Tropius.
Finally, on Voluca Island, there are the Barran Badlands, which are another desert area. This one, on the other hand, contains geysers and poison swamps. Because all places can be explored at any time of day or night, players will be able to embark on at least six new excursions as a result of this update.
On Nintendo Switch, the new Pokémon Snap is now available.
